The Khavda Project: KPI Green Energy’s Largest IPP Utility-Scale Solar Project

India is ranked as the fourth most attractive destination for renewable energy in the world. According to the 2024 Climatescope report, India has been recognized as a top performer in the Emerging Markets Power Ranking, ranking 1st across the Asia-Pacific region.

Recently, Gujarat has been recognized for its progressive approach to implementing environmentally friendly solutions to meet the region's and surrounding areas' energy demands, touted as one of the largest solar park projects by KPI Green Energy to date, a total of 645 MWp solar project in Khavda, Gujarat.

The setup of the solar plant in Gujarat is an ambitious one, as it is targeting an early completion, thereby creating a sustainable and robust power infrastructure. For the same, the Khavda solar project was awarded by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam LTD. (GUVNL) and Coal India as a solar project delivered ahead of schedule, with an expected start date between May and November 2025.

The completion of the Khavda solar project will mark KPI Green Energy’s operational IPP portfolio of 504+ MWp. This in itself is a pure testament to KPI Green Energy’s robust technical know-how and proven execution strength in building mega solar infrastructure projects in India.

KPI Green Energy Solar Project, Khavda, Gujarat

With the commissioning of the KPI Green Energy solar park in the Khavda region, KP Group is inching a step closer to India’s goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030. With equipment orders being placed, 90% of the construction is already close to the finish line, more than 60% of the equipment has been delivered, and the remaining 40% of the project is anticipated to be finished before the committed timeline.

KPI Green Energy is proud to boost the implementation of cutting-edge innovative technology while setting up the Khavda solar capacity, ensuring the highest standards of quality, longevity, and efficiency are at the paramount of the project.

Khavda Solar Project at Glance

IOT-powered Robotic Cleaning System:

The most common way of cleaning and maintaining the solar panels from dust collection is using intensive water as a cleaning method. However, this utility-scale solar project is utilizing waterless advanced robotic cleaning systems that clean up to 1 MWp in under 3 hours. This significantly reduces the water depletion, resulting in the entire plant being successfully cleaned by 550 robots.

Real Time Tracking with NOC (Network Operation Center):

Real-time monitoring of the plant is of utmost importance today. As it helps predict and identify the loopholes and issues beforehand to avoid any unnecessary hold-ups, causing hindrance to the plant's functioning. Among the many, to track the solar and wind assets KP Group has developed its advanced NOC (Network Operation Center) that can be operated even by a mobile device, include: monitor, analyze, and address any issues promptly, leading to increased asset efficiency and reduced downtime, and uninterrupted power supply at all times, via real time monitoring system.

Protection of Critical Equipment:

The nearby surroundings and environmental conditions impact the functioning of the solar plant directly. For the same, KP Green Engineering offers hot-dip galvanized solar structures as well as galvalume sheet for SPV Power Plant Projects. As energy-generating units are more likely to be operated in a harsh environment zone. Keeping this in mind, KPI Green Energy has taken this into account and ensured to implement a higher corrosion coating on all of the major equipment, providing further longevity to the Khavda solar project.

Improved Design for Better Functioning:

Just like how every house is built keeping a basic idea in mind, yet there is uniqueness in every design and workmanship of the house. Similarly, setting up the Khavda solar project by KPI Green Energy, the design is ensured to be made according to its unique location and custom foundation. While working towards the commissioning of its large-scale solar project in the Gujarat region, KPI Green Energy always works towards taking the Site survey and feasibility tests very seriously. Through the site survey, it became more clear to us that the region selected for the setting up of the solar power plant will give us over 300 sunny days annually, making it the most ideal scenario for a utility-scale solar project this size.
